Amman Chat- Salmiya

We tried the ‘Chaat’ at Amman in Salmiya this week and werent very impressed. A lot of people recommended this place since we were missing our regular chaat dose that we got in India but it really doesn’t live up to its reputation.

The pani puri was uninspired, the papdi chaat was missing something, I ordered a samosa chaat and it was the only thing I liked the whole evening. A major disappointment was the  Pav Bhaji. It wasnt even a real Pav!!

WTF baby doll!

I saw this doll while buying something at a gift shop, it reminds me of those movies where a guy is killed by suffocating him with a plastic bag over the head. Would make a great gift for a future psycho killer.

Operation Hope Kuwait

Operation Hope is a charitable organization in Kuwait that provides clothing and food to the less fortunate and the needy in Kuwait. You can donate clothing, food supplies or even volunteer your time if you’d like to help out in some way.

I spoke to them this evening and the most urgent things they require are warm clothing and blankets. They also accept food items(canned/long shelf life) If you’d like to contribute something to this cause please given them a call at 9937-5613

My regular  readers and friends can contact me directly if you want more information or want to coordinate efforts. Thanks.

Pazhassi Raja – Movie review

This is probably the most epic movie ever made in Malayalam. Everything about this movie is just perfect, from sound editing to the breathtaking visuals. The story is about a prince and his group of loyal fighters taking on the might of the British army. I must say that this movie exceeded my expectations and deserve a round of applause for both the actors and the technicians, infact I just love the cinematography of this movie. Check out some of the scenes in the open plains with the cloudy skies and you’ll know what I mean.

Be warned though that this movie runs for more than 3 hours.

Hobby tools

I’m not a serious model builder but it does pay to have a few essential items in your hobby tool kit so that you can try to make your model as good looking as possible. Here’s what I have in my kit;

. Side cutter – very essential

. Hobby knives

. File

. Tweezers

. Glue

. Screwdriver

. Magnifying glass

. Brushes

. Acrylic paint

. Detailing marker

I also went by My Toy Co this week and found that they have a good collection of 1/12 scale motorcycle models. They’re reasonably priced at around 6 to 7 KD and 12 KD for the most expensive model. I might buy one to build during the Eid holidays.

Negro brings the perfect shine

I saw this while shopping at a supermarket yesterday. Am I the only one or this is offensive to Black people ? It even has a black guy flexing his muscles on the cover.

Come to think of it, there was this brand called Mr. Proper that had a person of obviously African descent, on the label. Maybe I’m just paranoid but thats two black people on cleaning product labels.

Food photography

Two of my favorite subjects; Food and Photography. Looking at the various hobby groups on flickr, I’ve realized that there’s more to food photography than just shooting stuff on a plate. The arrangement, lighting, composition and color can either make it look appetizing or just plain yucky. Some professionals in marketing and advertising even use ‘fake food’ since a photo shoot can last several hours and stuff goes bad if you leave it out that long. Here’s some info about fake food tricks.

What follows are some of my attempts over the past few years to take some good food shots.  Which one is your favorite and why? :)

Bin Nisf Hardware

I spent hours today trying to find a small pair of side cutters for my hobby work and didnt find exactly what I wanted at ACE hardware or any of my usual places. After exiting what was probably my 10th store today, the guy asked me to check out Bin Nisf hardware and assured me I’d find what I was looking for.. and he was right! A beautiful pair of side cutters exactly as I wanted!

This was my first time at Bin Nisf and I was blown away at the amount of stuff they have there. I think I’m gonna make this my regular hardware shop from now on. You can also check out their website to see what they have. If you love hardware then don’t miss this place.
